You know I love a good milestone post on the blog. This week the Taylors have three to note as we move solidly into the fall season.

Getting spoiled

My parents came to visit us (okay, really to see Hudson) for two weeks in August. As usual, we put them to work fixing stuff around the house that we would never have had time or skill to do on our own. It was really good to see them, and we got a ton of great stuff done.

It’s not often that a casual browsing of Pinterest will actually end in an impromptu home renovation. Normally, I pin cool house ideas that I’m never going to do, or I’m searching for a specific project that I already intend to accomplish. However, this very thing occurred a few weeks ago at our house, and now we have an awesome new upgrade to show for it. (more…)

Hudson will be four months old for his first Christmas, so he isn’t really going to remember what we do or any gifts he’s given. However, it seemed sad to not get him anything at all! So Bart and I decided it would be a great opportunity to make a cute project that we’ve seen online, something that we probably would have made for him anyway…now we can stick a bow on it and call it a Christmas present!

Previously, I talked about our accidental basement makeover that kind of just happened while we were working on the other two bedroom renovations upstairs. Today, after alluding to it for months, I wanted to officially share the final result of those two rooms with you, bringing our update of the three upstairs bedrooms to a close. While there are still other projects we’d like to do upstairs, it’s nice to say we’ve at least wrapped up this segment. Now for the first time since we moved in two years ago, I have all bedrooms clean and functional!

The accidental basement makeover

While we were busy renovating the three bedrooms upstairs during the last year and a half, something unforeseen and somewhat accidental happened to our basement. Without really even trying, it somehow got an update of its own, transforming from a dark, stark hole where Bart had his office to an actually inviting spot for living and working. It’s almost a little cruel when I think about all the effort it took to get the upstairs where we wanted it, but maybe it’s a much needed lesson about home improvement and expectations.

38 weeks: it’s never too late?

Being technically full-term and able to possibly go into labor at any moment hasn’t stopped the Taylors from hosting two different contingencies of houseguests over the last two weekends. It’s never too late for a last-minute visit from friends, right?

Apparently big reveals are a “thing” on the Internet, especially when it comes to baby stuff. Now that I’m into my last month, I thought it would be a great time to share the big reveal of our nursery. Hopefully it’s not so awesome that it breaks the Internet. Which apparently is also a thing.

At 28 weeks, I am officially in my third trimester. We have less than three months left until our little guy is due, and I’m equal parts ready for it to be here and content to have a little time left. The second trimester was crammed full of travel, visitors, projects, and general churn which only just wrapped up over Memorial Day weekend. It was great to be busy when I was feeling well, but now our schedule for the summer is looking more relaxed, and I am looking forward to coasting a bit to the finish line.
Room revamp #2 completed!

Bart and I began work on Room #2 after Christmas, and progress has been slow but steady. We thought it would move faster, but I was too exhausted in the first trimester to do much, and Bart couldn’t work on much during the evenings when I was going to bed at 7 pm for weeks on end. But finally I felt better and the weather improved, so the update got rolling again. I am relieved to say that this room is finally done as of last weekend!
