And the winner is…

Lots of you cast your vote on Baby T’s gender, and I must say that the overwhelming sentiment was to side with Murphy and say it’s a girl. But the question remains–was his prediction right or wrong?

Before we had our 20-week ultrasound, there was much debate over whether Baby T was a boy or girl. There are dozens of (very scientific) old wive’s tales about how to determine your baby’s gender, and who wouldn’t believe all of them? But for some reason, Bart and I felt that we needed another definitive test before letting the professionals tell us, so we obviously enlisted the help of our remarkable canine, Murphy. 

The task was simple–two identical Greenies, his favorite treat, one tied in a pink ribbon and the other in blue, both spaced equally far from Murphy. All he had to do was pick the one he though represented the gender of his soon-to-be playmate. Here are the (very scientific) results:

This weekend, Bart’s parents came to visit us. It was their first time to come see our new house and his dad’s first time to see Washington, D.C. in general, so we had a great time showing them around. Sunday was also both Easter and Bart’s birthday, making the weekend even more special.

Each year at Easter, I usually find myself pondering the road to the cross through a different perspective. The story of redemption is really so simple that even a child may come with faith and believe, yet the implications are so profoundly complex that theologians across the millennia have wrestled with these simple truths in awe. Up until this week, I didn’t really know where my thoughts were leading me this year, but the sermon at church this past Sunday sparked something in my brain that has stuck with me through the week, and it has turned out to be the significant message from Easter I’ve ponde this year.

Bravo-cado 

When we last met our brave little avocado plant, it was growing up a storm in the sunshine on our back deck. When fall set in, we brought it inside for the winter, where it got lots of afternoon sun in our kitchen window. Recently, the Little Pit That Could is doing some very bizarre and interesting things as the saga of growing-an-avocado-plant-from-a-pit continues.
