Five months: girls, interrupted

Taking flight

Against all logic and reason, Bart and my 30-week-pregnant self hauled our 13-month-old on a plane to Arkansas for a family trip last week. With a baby on the way, our opportunities to make it back home in the foreseeable future are numbered, so we made use of our last reasonable window for a while to go spend some time with our families.

Screen time

Everyone who comes to our house oohs and aahs over the screened-in porch we have right off the kitchen in the front of our house. It’s definitely a unique feature of our home and a big selling point. Who wouldn’t want to sit out there in the cedar porch swing on a warm evening under the shade of our 80-ft high oak trees, watching the squirrels scamper around our dogwood tree and hearing woodpeckers tapping away in the distance while having the baseball game on a small TV in the corner?

The thing is, we didn’t do that. We went out there occasionally, but generally we never felt compelled to be out there. We basically didn’t want to be out there. It took us a couple of years to figure out why, but once we realized the obvious, we made a few simple changes to make this one of the most desirable spots in the house.

Ten months: back on track

Hudson is ten months old! We’ve had a lot going on in the last month, not all great but plenty of fun things, too. I think we are all glad it’s finally summer.

Out and about

Spring was so disgustingly cold and dreary that it felt like every weekend was wasted, trapped in the house watching the rain fall. But in the last few weeks the clouds have parted and temperatures have increased, so we’ve finally been able to enjoy some fun activities.

Six months: happy half birthday!

Happy half birthday, Hudson! Our little man is six month old now. One half of a year is huge in the life of a baby, and Hudson has come a long way from passive newborn to active baby.
