Well, baby is due on Sunday but theoretically could come any day now. Did you hear that, baby? Any day now. The second pregnancy has been relatively uneventful but definitely more tiring with a 15-month-old involved. I’m so thankful my parents have been here for almost two weeks now to help out as we await the arrival; while Bart has been super amazing as usual, we could never have managed this well on our own.

I could say a lot about pregnancy and all the thoughts and emotions associated with it or described the unique aspects of this one, but as we count down the final days I thought I would keep it relatively light by reflecting on some of the questions and comments I have received over the last few months. Most are pretty benign or guileless, even if they get annoying in their frequency or short-sightedness.

This weekend, Bart, Murphy, and I hopped in the car and drove down to Raleigh for a bit of a “last hurrah” car trip before the baby gets here. It isn’t my intention for the Taylor Approximation to become just a pregnancy blog while we await the arrival of our child, but clearly preparations for a baby tend to get priority over other activities, especially as the day draws near. I’m at 31 weeks now, just two months away from the due date. I feel that pretty much everything is settled and we’re functional and prepared for a newborn, at least as prepared as anybody can be–which is pretty much not at all, except that he has a car seat and a place to sleep, along with oodles of cute and helpful doodahs that are nice to have but not necessary for survival. I know the last 9 weeks will go by quickly, but I also feel that, just like the rest of the pregnancy, it will go slowly at the same time.

Twenty weeks: half-baked

Today I am twenty weeks along in this pregnancy, which puts me exactly halfway to the due date. I wouldn’t say that the first half has gone particularly fast or particularly slowly; life these days seems to consist of relatively long weeks that string together into months that zip by at break-neck speed, giving the odd illusion of time moving quickly and slowly all at the same time. But the half-way point is a good time to reflect on how far I’ve come and what still lies ahead before the big day arrives.

It’s been almost an entire week since Pi Day, so I imagine that you are positively desperate for a little math in your life! Today, I thought it would be fun to have a quick chat and learn a little bit about the Taylor Expansion, since it is related to the title of the blog and all.
