Previously, I talked about our accidental basement makeover that kind of just happened while we were working on the other two bedroom renovations upstairs. Today, after alluding to it for months, I wanted to officially share the final result of those two rooms with you, bringing our update of the three upstairs bedrooms to a close. While there are still other projects we’d like to do upstairs, it’s nice to say we’ve at least wrapped up this segment. Now for the first time since we moved in two years ago, I have all bedrooms clean and functional!

Back in September, we began an update of a pantry/storage closet below the stairs in our basement. We decided to do everything ourselves, from installing new drywall to putting down new flooring. It took a little longer than we expected, but we recently put the finishing touches on the project.

Happy Labor Day, everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your last official hoorah of summer. Bart and I debated what to do over the long weekend…should we go somewhere and do something exciting, or should we work to finish one of our ongoing projects at home? Eventually we decided to tackle a new project, replacing a light fixture downstairs. Four days, five sheets of drywall, a trip to Ikea, multiple gallons of joint compound, and a pile of demolition debris later, we still haven’t quite gotten our new light fixture installed.

It’s not just temperatures that are finally creeping upward this week. Bart and I have turned our attentions to the ceiling in our spare bedroom as we begin the final leg of our renovations in there.

Today, we’ve been in our house for two months (I remark about how time flies every time I do a post about milestones, so I’ll spare you the repetition). I feel like we’ve done a lot in that time, both with getting unpacked and settled and also diving into some more significant projects.

The biggest thing we’ve tackled in the house is revamping spare bedroom #1 upstairs. It’s the smallest room on the main level (which isn’t saying too much; all three rooms are pretty small), and of all the areas on the main floor, it has had the least updating in the last 50 years.
