Now that it’s the middle of August and back-to-school season, it is sadly apparent that summer is beginning to wind down (oh, woe!). However, we still have plenty of warm and sunny days, and to celebrate the remainder of growing season, I thought I would share a late summer garden update to let you know how things fared in our yard this season.

As you can probably tell, I am fond of cooking. Over the years, my recipe repertoire has expanded, causing me to expand my collection of various spices. While I don’t have anything terribly exotic, having a variety of options begins to add up, and spice bottles can begin to overtake the pantry. When we got married, I was gifted a spice rack, which seemed like a great idea at the time. However, it had a rather large footprint and didn’t hold many spices at all for the square footage it took up in the pantry or on the counter. Eventually, I began hatching a grand plan for functional and hyper-organized herb and spice storage.

I’m on yet another snow day today. Have I mentioned that I’m fed up with winter already?

Recently I reported on my holiday tradition of growing bulbs in the house and subduing at least part of the gloominess of winter with some fresh blooms. Sadly, the last of my paperwhites have faded now; meanwhile, the weather is still atrocious and not even hinting of letting up. However, yet another snowstorm can’t bury the desire to see something green thriving around our house, and our winter defiance planting has been heating up in anticipation of spring.
