It isn’t my intention for the Taylor Approximation to become just a pregnancy blog while we await the arrival of our child, but clearly preparations for a baby tend to get priority over other activities, especially as the day draws near. I’m at 31 weeks now, just two months away from the due date. I feel that pretty much everything is settled and we’re functional and prepared for a newborn, at least as prepared as anybody can be–which is pretty much not at all, except that he has a car seat and a place to sleep, along with oodles of cute and helpful doodahs that are nice to have but not necessary for survival. I know the last 9 weeks will go by quickly, but I also feel that, just like the rest of the pregnancy, it will go slowly at the same time.

Bart and I spent Thanksgiving down in Raleigh (where else?) with family last week. Since his sister is due with her second in January, she won’t be able to travel over Christmas, so we decided to all meet there for Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday festivities.

I didn’t anticipate being so long away from the blog, or home for that matter, so soon after our last trip. But last Sunday night as we were preparing for another normal work week, we got word that Bart’s grandfather had just passed away, and our plans changed almost immediately.

It was a dark and stormy night to start off our Christmas break. It began raining with about an hour left in our all-day driving marathon, and we drove the rest of the way to our final destination in pouring rain and pitch black. We also had two different sets of family members driving out in the torrential rain and lightening last evening, so Bart and I were very thankful when we and all other parties arrived safely to their respective destinations.
