Armed with our Swiss Passes, Bart and I covered a lot of ground in Switzerland. I told you about our day in the Berner Oberland, but we saw a whole bunch more than just Alps and snow. As I mentioned in my initial post about our trip, Switzerland is a diverse country in landscape as well as culture. We focused our travels on the German- and French-speaking areas of the country, though Italian and the dialect of Romanch are spoken in other areas (maybe next time). Today, I’m going to share our experiences in the German-speaking cities that we visited, and I’ll cover the French-speaking areas next time.

When you think of Switzerland, a few things probably come to mind: Swiss chocolate, Swiss cheese, Swiss army knives, and Ricola cough drops. But probably the most iconic symbol of Switzerland is the Alps. Naturally, if Bart and I were going to be spending a week in Switzerland, the Alps were high on our list of things to see while we were there. Given our somewhat constrained schedule, we only had a couple of days to explore one part of this majestic range. It was the first stop on our whirlwind tour, but it turned out to be our favorite time of the whole trip.
