This weekend, Bart, Murphy, and I hopped in the car and drove down to Raleigh for a bit of a “last hurrah” car trip before the baby gets here. We don’t envision making any grand trips from here on out, as one just never knows. But we did want to take the opportunity to see some friends and family while traveling is slightly less complicated.
Our friends Laura and Sujit and their daughter came to visit us over Memorial Day weekend, so seeing them again so soon was a treat. We stayed at their place and spent time just hanging out. I even squeezed in a selfie with their one-year-old:
Then on Saturday we spent the afternoon with Bart’s sister and brother-in-law, who also live in the area. Jennifer and Shawn have a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old, so we had a great time playing with them. Uncle Bart was a huge hit, especially with Taylor.
I also managed another baby selfie with Jackson:
He and his upcoming cousin will be about 7 months apart, so they are going to have a blast playing together soon. Meanwhile, Jennifer was so kind as to send us home with a whole pile of baby gear that he has outgrown already to help round out our preparations.
I topped off the day with a visit to my friend Ann’s house. It’s nice to have so many friends all in one place…my only complaint is that there’s never enough time to spend as long as I’d like with everyone!
Raleigh is close enough that we envision it as a reasonable destination whenever we feel ready to attempt a “road trip” with the kid one day. With enough friends and family to stay with, most of whom have kids themselves, that part would be relatively easy. The drive will probably depend on the kid and his personality, so we’ll just have to feel that out as we all get to know each other. Just another thing that changes when you have kids!
